Dick’s Well-Learned Lesson

This one is another two-part assignment. Vedah was given the assignment to write about a true incident that had happened to her or someone she knew, and then transform that incident into a story. I am not sure the backstory on this one—if any family members have any other info on the hog story, I would love to share it here.

When it comes to Dick’s story itself, Grandma received the critique that there was not enough conflict in this story. I beg to differ. As anyone who has worked on a farm can attest, doing a mile-long list of chores in a single day is nothing but conflict: man versus nature at every turn.

But more than that, I believe the clue to what Grandma is up to is on the last two pages. This is not a story about Dick overcoming adversity on his own. This is about Dick calling out to God for help, and God coming to the rescue.

(Also, keep an eye out for the surprising moral in the last line. It gave me a chuckle!)
